Our Jäm Besides the hundreds of small lakes, we have two large water basins: Lake Päijänne and Lake Längelmävesi. Jämsä and Kuhmoinen are located besides the shores of Lake Päijänne, and Länkipohja village is on the shore of Längelmävesi. Lake Päijänne is th longest lake of Finland, dividing the Southern Finland in two. It flowes from Lahti to Jyväskylä. Our beautiful lakes, bays, harbours and several boating routes with their services just wait for the travellers to come. Besides the natural water ways, we have rubber canals for transition between the water bodies (the rubber canal of Häme between lakes Keurusselkä and Päijänne, and from Längelmävesi to Päijänne.) Beyond boating, the waterways offer perfect possibilities for fishing, swimming and winter sports on ice. Those, interested in longer boat trips can head north from the harbour of Hulkkionlahti, Jämsä, and carry on all the way up to the northern Keitele. The tourists heading south can go down to Vääksy and continue to Lahti. The National Park of Päijänne (www.luontoon.fi/) south from Kuhmoinen is practically impossible to visit without a boat.
The residents of Halli are enjoying their skiing and boating trips on landscape of Lake Eväjärvi, the Church of Kuorevesi and the local museum, on the other hand, are located besides the beautiful Lake Kuorevesi. The visitors of Himos Holiday Resort, in turn, cannot leave unnoticed Lake Patalahti. In summer, you can row, paddle and fish on the lake, in winter the ice surface offers plenty of delightful possibilities for fun, tour skating and ice swimming, for instance. Facts about Lake Päijänne
INTERESTING WATER INFORMATION: Through the Päijänne Tunnel the Pääkaupunkiseudun Vesi Oy leads the raw water of Lake Päijänne to the metropolitan area of Helsinki, for millions of people. The water for the tunnel is taken from the basin of Asikkalanselkä in the depth of 26 meters, 350 meters from the coast line. This ensures the cold temperature of the water (4-10 °C) throughout the year. The water is drained through the tunnel in 2.5-3.5 m3/s, which is equal to one percent of the discharge of Päijänne. The Päijänne Tunnel secures the sufficiency of quality raw water in the metropolitan area of Helsinki for decades to come. Nonetheless, none of the shore municipals on Lake Päijänne take drinking water from the lake. See also: http://www.paijannettapohjoiseen.com/» Siirrä tähän (Pääpalsta) «

Boating
sä region is full of water systems. Therefore boating and canoeing are very popular ways to relax in the region.
We have also many other lakes in the region. Lake Kankarisvesi in Jämsänkoski is the first worth mentioning. The shores of Kankarisvesi have plenty of settlement. The Rasua Cape with its lovely sand beach cuts the lake in the middle. Long and narrow Lake Kankarisvesi is part of the Canoing Route of Wanha Witonen, which carries on from Petäjävesi to Lake Päijänne.
